Best Time to Travel to Alaska

Have you ever been to Alaska? This is one of the best places you will ever visit and you will love your holiday season there. It is an awesome place and everyone must visit Alaska at least once in their lifetime. If you are thinking of going to Alaska, plan your journey wisely so that you can enjoy most of your stay. So, what are the best seasons to visit this place?

Don’t make the mistake of visiting Alaska in the wrong season as this region is covered in snow most of the time and you won’t get to enjoy everything you can do there. I personally prefer going there in between May and September. I personally don’t prefer package tours operated by travel agencies as I can’t enjoy much as all the things will be pre-planned. If you are looking for some package tours to Alaska, several operators plan tours in between June and August. Plan and book early so that you can avail some extra discounts.

Daylight: Experience 16-22 hours of continuous daylight by travelling to Alaska in summer. You can observe 19, 22 and 16 hours of daylight in Anchorage, Fairbanks and the Southeast respectively on the summer solstice i.e. June 21. You may need some time to get used to Alaska’s daylight but you will surely love this new experience a lot.

Rain: Be prepared to get wet as rainfall is very common during summer also. In May, average rainfall is less compared to other months but in May also; you can enjoy rainfall once in every four days on average. By the end of August, you can experience rainfall on alternate days and it is better to end your holiday trip by the end of August.

Temperature: Northern Alaska is covered with snow most of the time and temperatures can go as low as -30˚C during winters. During summer, temperature variations will be very high and based on the region you are travelling to, mercury levels can go up to 25˚C. Anchorage, Fairbanks, Fort Yukon are some places where highest temperatures can be recorded during summers but never expect more than 30˚C temperature in Alaska.

Other important dates: The Iditarod trail sled dog race, World Ice Art championships, the Blueberry Festival are some of the popular events held in Alaska and if you want to mingle with locals and enjoy local flavors, plan your travel during these events.
